Privacy Policy
Last Updated: October 25, 2026 ยท Effective Immediately
1. Our Core Privacy Philosophy
At DEEP ("we", "us", or "our", reachable at dailydeep.app), we believe that intellectual curiosity should not come at the cost of personal surveillance. Our web application is built on a privacy-first, data-minimization architecture: you do not need an account, password, or credit card to play our daily knowledge dives.
This Privacy Policy explains what limited information is processed when you visit our website, how cookies and third-party advertising partners (including Google AdSense) operate, and how you can exercise full control over your privacy rights.
2. Information We Collect and Store
A. Local Game State
Personal streaks, individual question history, archetype badges, and settings are stored locally on your device via the HTML5 Web Storage API (localStorage). This personal gameplay data is never tied to an account or profile.
B. Anonymous Retention & Gameplay Telemetry
When a player completes a Daily Dive, an anonymous payload containing only the topic slug, completion date, and final depth reached is sent to our server to compute aggregate community depth distributions (percentiles). To measure anonymous cohort retention (DAU/MAU) without tracking your identity, a random client-generated UUID (deep_did) is preserved locally in localStorage. This identifier is never linked to personal profiles, email addresses, names, or real identities.
C. Regional Edge Geolocation
Aggregated, high-level country codes (e.g., US, GB, DE) resolved at the Cloudflare edge from incoming request headers are associated with daily sessions and dive completion records. No fine-grained geolocation, GPS data, or precise IP addresses are ever logged or retained in our databases.
D. Aggregate Share & Referral Metrics
When players copy results or challenge links to the clipboard, invoke native share sheets, or export 1080ร1920 Story Cards, non-personal outbound events (topic slug, depth reached, and share type) are recorded to quantify community virality and topic popularity. These events contain zero personal information.
E. Device & Technical Diagnostics
Like all web servers, our infrastructure automatically records non-identifying technical metadata including browser type, operating system, referring URL, timestamp, and network performance metrics. We use this data solely to monitor server reliability, prevent distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, and optimize game rendering across mobile and desktop devices.
Public Callsigns & Nicknames: If you voluntarily set a display name or nickname in your profile, that name is stored in your browser's local storage and transmitted to our database when recording scores. This chosen handle is displayed publicly on the Weekly Trench Leaderboard and in shared Challenge Mode showdowns alongside your depth score and rank. You may change or reset your nickname at any time from your Profile settings.
Daily Push Notifications (Optional): If you choose to enable daily reminders, we store an anonymous browser-generated push token and your device's approximate timezone in our database to dispatch reminders at a reasonable morning hour. No personal identifying information or emails are collected. You can disable notifications at any time via your Profile settings or your browser permissions.
3. Google AdSense & Third-Party Advertising Cookies
DEEP partners with third-party vendors, including Google, to serve advertisements using cookies based on a user's prior visits to this or other websites. These contextual and interest-based advertisements help keep DEEP free and accessible for curious players worldwide.
Mandatory Advertising Disclosures:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites on the internet.
- Google's use of advertising cookies (such as the DoubleClick cookie) enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to our site and/or other sites across the World Wide Web.
- Users may opt out of personalized advertising at any time by visiting the Google Ads Settings portal.
- Alternatively, users can opt out of third-party vendor cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info or the Network Advertising Initiative consumer opt-out page at optout.networkadvertising.org.
4. Cookies and Web Storage Controls
Cookies are small text files placed on your device to ensure core site navigation, remember user preferences, and serve non-intrusive advertisements. You can modify your browser settings to decline or purge cookies at any time:
- Essential Cookies: Required to maintain game state, PWA service worker caching, and security sessions.
- Analytics Cookies: Anonymous telemetry to help us identify broken questions or rendering bugs.
- Advertising Cookies: Set by Google AdSense to prevent repetitive ad displays and measure delivery effectiveness.
Please note that disabling cookies may affect some game features (such as audio preferences or offline progressive web app installation).
5. Global Privacy Rights: GDPR (EEA/UK) & CCPA/CPRA (California)
Whether you reside in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, California, or elsewhere, we extend comprehensive privacy protections:
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):
You hold the right to access, rectify, restrict processing of, or erase any personal information we may hold. Because DEEP does not require user registration or maintain player accounts, we do not store identity profiles.
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA):
California residents have the right to request disclosure of categories of personal information collected, request deletion, and opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. DEEP does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third parties for monetary consideration.
6. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
DEEP is an educational trivia website intended for a general audience. We do not direct our services toward children under the age of 13, nor do we knowingly collect personally identifiable information from minors under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately at support.dailydeep@gmail.com, and we will promptly delete such records.
7. Security and Policy Updates
We employ standard TLS encryption and rigorous static asset caching to safeguard web communications. We reserve the right to amend this Privacy Policy to reflect technological shifts, legal updates, or changes in our game services. Any revisions will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" timestamp.
